Septic pump truck and vacuum truck insurance

A pump truck business runs heavy trucks on public roads, works on customers' property every day, and hauls waste that can make a real mess if it spills. We put together a program that fits the way you actually work.

  • Commercial auto for your pump trucks, vac trucks and service trucks.
  • General liability for the work you do on customers' property.
  • Pollution coverage to help close the spill gap most general liability and auto policies leave.
  • Inland marine for pumps, hoses, trailers and other equipment you move from job to job.
  • Workers' compensation for your crew.

Heavy equipment and contractors equipment insurance in Texas

Excavators, skid steers, backhoes and dozers are expensive, and they move around. Inland marine contractors equipment coverage protects owned, leased and rented equipment in storage, on the trailer and at the jobsite.

Dump trucks and water trucks go under commercial auto, and general liability covers the work itself. We also issue certificates of insurance for your contracts, so you can get on the job.

Dump truck insurance in Texas

Dump truck owners need commercial auto that fits the truck, the loads and how far you run. We quote dump trucks alone or together with your equipment and liability. See everything we write on our commercial insurance page.

Septic installer insurance

Installing a septic system means excavation, heavy equipment and work on someone else's land. We look at general liability for your installation work, pollution coverage, inland marine for your excavator, backhoe and trailer, commercial auto for your trucks, and workers' comp for your crew.

TCEQ sludge transporter registration, in plain English

In Texas, if you haul septic tank waste, grease trap or grit trap waste, or portable toilet waste, you have to register with TCEQ (the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) before you start hauling.

  • Registrations expire August 31. Send the renewal by June 15 of the year it expires.
  • TCEQ issues a sticker for each registered truck, and the fee is $10 per truck.
  • Keep a copy of the registration in each truck.
  • Mark your company name and registration number on both sides of the truck or tank.

Registration is a state requirement. Insurance is a separate question. Standard general liability and auto policies usually exclude pollution, so a spill from your truck can fall between them unless pollution coverage is added. Send us your current policies and we'll show you where you stand.

Septic truck and heavy equipment insurance FAQ

Do I need to register with TCEQ to haul septage or grease trap waste?

Yes. In Texas, anyone who hauls septic tank waste, grease trap or grit trap waste, or portable toilet waste has to register with TCEQ, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and receive the registration before they start hauling. We can help with the insurance side once you are registered.

How often does TCEQ hauler registration renew?

Every two years. Registrations expire August 31, and the renewal is due by June 15 of the year it expires. TCEQ issues a sticker for each registered truck, and the fee is $10 per truck. Keep a copy of the registration in each truck.

Does general liability cover a sewage spill or septic backup?

Usually not. Standard general liability policies usually exclude pollution, and a sewage spill or backup can fall under that exclusion. We read your actual policy, show you where the gap is, and quote pollution coverage that can help close it before a spill happens on a customer's property.

Does my commercial auto policy cover a spill from my vacuum truck?

Often not. Commercial auto policies usually exclude pollution too, so a spill from a pump truck can land in a gap between your auto and your general liability policies. Send us your current policies and we will check the wording and show you how to close that gap.

What is inland marine contractors equipment coverage?

It covers equipment that moves, like an excavator, skid steer, backhoe, dozer or trailer, whether it is in the yard, on the trailer or at the jobsite. It is separate from your commercial auto and general liability policies, and it can cover owned, leased and rented equipment.

Is my excavator or skid steer covered on the trailer or at the jobsite?

It can be, with inland marine contractors equipment coverage. That policy follows the machine in storage, on the trailer and at the jobsite. Your commercial auto policy covers the truck pulling the trailer, not the machine on it, so we check that both policies are in place.

What insurance does a septic installer need in Texas?

Most septic installers look at general liability for the installation work, pollution coverage for spills and backups, inland marine for the excavator, backhoe and trailer, commercial auto for the trucks, and workers' comp for the crew. Your customers, cities or contracts may set their own requirements.
